April 23, 2020
Virtual Google Meet

In Attendance: Nate Edvalson (PTSA Administration VP), DeeAnn Pratt (PTSA Elect), Betty Shaw (PTSA President), Brooke D’Sousa (PTSA Legislative VP), Kim Garrard (PTSA Treasurer), Brooke Heumann (PTSA Teacher VP), and Julie Moore (PTSA Secretary)

Welcome by Betty Shaw

Thought by Betty Shaw – “This Quarantine will end, it won’t go on forever.  Hang in there and we will figure things out.”

A motion was made by Brooke D’Sousa to approve the Agenda and Kim Garrard seconded the motion.  The Agenda passed unanimously.

The minutes from the PTSA meeting held on April 2, 2020 were emailed to board members prior to the meeting.  A motion to approve the minutes was made by Kim Garrard and Brooke D’Sousa seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved unanimously.

Before the Treasurer’s report, Betty explained that a check had to be reissued for $74.28 and that check had recently been deposited.  Kimberly Garrard gave the Treasurer’s report stating the current balance on hand before the new deposit was $994.59 and $1068.87 with the new deposit.  Betty will also contact the Secondary Council to receive a reimbursement check for the Day at the State Capital.  The reimbursement amount should be around $84.00.  The Treasurer’s report was then passed unanimously. Betty will contact Kim to schedule a time in the Summer to work on a budget for next year.

Betty Shaw thanked Julie Moore for sending a thank you note to Jessica Caldiero at Zupas, thanking them for providing meals for CTA faculty and teachers for March’s Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Betty will look for other donations such as Firehouse Subs for faculty meals for future Parent-Teacher Conferences.

PTSA memberships are still at 37 which is a good number for a first year.  We will work on getting more memberships for next year.

Due to the cancellation of the remainder of the school year, field trips will be worked into the budget for next year.  Betty would like parents to talk to their students and see what they would like for a field trip and she asked Nate and Brooke Heumann to get feedback from the staff and students to see what plans can be scheduled in next year’s budget.

Recognizing the 13 graduates was discussed.  Betty learned that we may still get money from Salt Lake County for a Grad Night if we are promoting safety and keeping our bodies healthy in a positive manner.  The allocated fund may need to be used for Covid recovery.  Betty will let the board know when she learns if the funds are available.

Kim suggested recognizing the students with yard signs.  Brooke D’Sousa agreed to take on the project of building/creating/ordering yard signs with the help of DeeAnn Pratt.  Nate will get the graduation information (name spellings and addresses) from the graduate families by May 1st and send the information to Brooke D’Sousa and DeeAnn Pratt.

Teacher Appreciation ideas were discussed. Betty knows about coupons available from Chick-Fil-A, Arctic Circle and possibly other restaurants that can be used for teacher appreciation. Betty suggested putting together a gift bag with the coupons along with a gift card ($25 for teachers and $10 for paras) and candy.  PTA has approved gifts cards as long as they are used like cash where recipients sign for the receipt of them.  It was also suggested that Krispy Kreme Donuts or Crumble Cookies be available when the teachers/paras pick up their gift bag.

Nate will send an email when the plans are decided on when teachers would be coming to the school to close  out the end of the school year.  It was also decided that Betty would get the gift cards from Cafe Rio as well as the teacher appreciation coupons.  Kim Garrard will help Betty with the gift bags, candy and 3 dozen Crumble Cookies.

Due to the cancellation of the PTA Convention in May, Workshop Wednesdays will occur on Utah PTA Facebook page in order to train local PTA leaders.  The workshops will air on Facebook Live in the morning and evening each Wednesday.  There will also, hopefully, be a recording so that videos can be watched at any time. Please follow Utah PTA on Facebook in order to see these workshops.

There was a Region PTA Zoom Training Meeting held on Friday, April 17 from 10:00 am – Noon.  Betty will find out if that training meeting was recorded.

August 6th is the proposed date for a Region Fall Leadership Training at Mount Jordan Middle School from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm.  This meeting will include convention training that would have been given in the May meeting.  The new Canyons District Superintendent will be in attendance at this meeting.

The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, May 21st, 5:00 pm via Google meetings, if needed.
